I come from a sales management background and have spent over 12 years in retail management. I had a lot of fun selling fun things and hanging out with fun people, but as I got older, selling electronics to people seemed to become a bit superficial. I started to crave something more fulfilling, and wanted to be proud of more than just sales numbers. It was time to help people with less trivial problems than video game glitches. I come from a family in the business world and banking industry, and grew up listening to horror stories of Canada’s growing debt problems. I honestly had come to see banks and credit card companies as the enemy, and even avoided using banks and credit cards as much as I could. I resented feeling like they had all the control, and that regular people, like myself, were helpless. I needed banks and credit cards just to cash my own paycheck and pay my bills, but with little say or understanding of the rules of the game. The rules seemed intentionally difficult to understand. Sometimes I even felt a little stupid. Just like the video game glitches I was helping other people with, playing this game felt rigged; unfair, unplayable. It actually made me depressed. Things changed for me when I came to the conclusion that if I had to play, then I wanted to know the rules, and be smarter, and play to win! I wanted some control over my financial environment.
I started looking into careers in the finance world, thinking, if I want to win at this game, I would need to get a complete understanding of the financial world. I started my education and began working towards a position with a large wealth management company as a consultant. I was really enjoying the process and some new success, but nearing the end of the grooming process for the position, some of what I was learning started to make me feel that the position wasn’t for me.
While I was going through this, I attended a birthday dinner with a professional who told me about 4 Pillars. This professional, someone close to me, had watched me progress through my pursuit of transitioning from a job into a lasting career, could see my potential, and knew that I was looking for a career not centred simply around money, but in helping people like myself get control of their financial environment, so that they too could play the game to win. He explained to me how he had the privileged position of fighting for the little guy, helping them get out from under overburdening debt and the stress that comes with it. As a Debt Consultant with 4 Pillars, his job description consisted of helping people get out of debt, rebuilding their credit, and helping them cultivate a future of lasting financial prosperity and security, allowing them to realize life goals that were once a dream. I knew by the time the party had finished, that this was the right career for me.
Now, having finished the 4 Pillars educational program and on the job training, I have settled into my lifelong career as a 4 Pillars Debt Consultant, and have had the pleasure of helping many clients achieve the same financial freedom I myself once thought was not achievable. I take great pride in fighting for ideal outcomes for my clients, and appreciate having a career where I know I make a positive difference in the world. Many tearful thank you’s have shown me time and time again that I’m doing the right thing, and that this is the job I was meant to do. I look forward to helping you too.
